FAQ

Is the Tamiya Toyota Celica GT-Four ready to run? No. This is an assembly kit. The chassis, drivetrain, suspension, body and electronics must be assembled before the model can be driven.

Does kit 58743 include an ESC? Yes. The export-market kit includes an electronic speed controller. The precise ESC model may vary according to distributor, market or production batch.

Does it include a motor? Yes. A Type 540 brushed motor is included.

Are the transmitter, receiver and steering servo included? No. A compatible two-channel surface radio system and a standard-size steering servo are required separately.

Is the body painted? No. The Celica body is supplied in clear polycarbonate and requires painting. Window masks and exterior stickers are included.

Which paint should I use? Use Tamiya PS-series paint or another paint specifically formulated for flexible polycarbonate RC bodies. Standard hard-plastic paint may crack or peel when the body flexes.

Is the body pre-cut? Body preparation may include trimming, drilling and finishing as shown in the instruction manual. Review the supplied body instructions before painting or cutting.

What type of battery does the TT-02 use? The chassis is commonly used with compatible 7.2V NiMH stick packs or 7.4V 2S LiPo packs. Confirm the battery dimensions, connector and included ESC specifications before ordering.

Can I use a 2S LiPo battery? Only when the included ESC supports LiPo operation and has correctly configured low-voltage protection. Check the instructions supplied with the ESC before connecting a LiPo battery.

Is the TT-02 suitable for beginners? Yes. Its symmetrical suspension components, enclosed gearboxes and straightforward layout make it a popular first touring-car kit. Careful assembly and adult assistance may still be required.

Does the TT-02 include ball bearings? Standard TT-02 kits typically use plastic or metal bushings in several locations. A complete compatible ball-bearing set is a popular first upgrade because it can reduce drivetrain friction.

Does it have oil-filled shocks? No. The standard kit uses friction dampers. Compatible oil-filled dampers are available separately for improved suspension control.

Can the gearing be changed? Yes. The standard ratio is 8.27:1, and nine additional ratios can be achieved using compatible optional pinion gears.

Can I install a faster motor? The TT-02 supports many upgrade options, but the selected motor must be compatible with the ESC, gearing, battery and drivetrain. Monitor motor and ESC temperature after changing the power system or gearing.

What are the most useful first upgrades? Common upgrades include a complete ball-bearing set, oil-filled dampers, an aluminium centre driveshaft and adjustable steering components. The best upgrade depends on whether the car is intended for casual driving, display or club racing.

Is this suitable for off-road driving? The standard Celica TT-02 is configured as an on-road touring car. It is best used on smooth sealed surfaces and should not be confused with the raised TT-02 rally configurations.

Is the model waterproof? Waterproofing depends on the electronics installed. Unless every component is specifically rated for wet use, avoid standing water and dry the chassis thoroughly after damp conditions.
