FAQ
Is the Joysway DF65 V8 completely ready to sail out of the box? The RTR version includes the radio equipment and installed servos, but final keel, mast, sail and rigging assembly and adjustment are required before launching.
What batteries are required for the DF65 V8? The FlySky i6 transmitter requires four AA alkaline batteries and the boat's receiver battery box requires another four AA batteries. Eight AA batteries are required in total and are not included.
Is the DF65 V8 650mm or 655mm long? Joysway's current official V8 specification lists the hull length as 650mm. Some retailer headings describe the model as 655mm, but OZRC uses the current manufacturer specification.
What changed from the DF65 V7 to the V8? V8 updates introduced from February 2025 include a more consistent digital sail winch, improved stainless bearings, revised switch mounting, reinforced rigging hardware, improved mast fittings, stronger sail corner reinforcement and tighter rudder linkage components.
Is the V8 faster than earlier DF65 versions? No. The DF International Class Association states that the V8 changes were introduced to improve build quality and reliability without changing the performance level of the restricted one-design class.
Can older DF65 boats use the V8 parts? Yes. The DF International Class Association states that the new V8 components are intended to be available for retrofitting to previous versions, subject to the current class rules.
Can the Dragon Force 65 V8 be raced competitively? Yes. The DF65 is designed specifically around the international restricted one-design racing class. For organised competition, check the current DF65 class rules before modifying the sails, rigging, electronics or other controlled components.
Important Notes
- Requires 8 x AA batteries in total: 4 for the transmitter and 4 for the receiver
- Final mast, keel, sail and rigging assembly is required before first use
- For sanctioned DF65 racing, modifications are restricted by the applicable class rules
- Check rigging adjustment, rudder movement, sail winch operation and hatch sealing before launching
- Stainless steel bearings and moving rigging components still require routine cleaning and lubrication
- Always sail in an area where the boat can be safely retrieved if wind drops, radio control is lost or the yacht becomes disabled
