View All Spaz StixSpaz Stix Colour Change Gold / Orange / Purple / Red Aerosol Paint creates a dramatic chameleon finish that shifts through multiple colours as the viewing angle and lighting conditions change. Designed primarily for clear polycarbonate RC car and truck bodies, the translucent effect reveals gold, orange, purple and red highlights for an eye-catching custom finish.
For clear polycarbonate bodies painted from the inside, Spaz Stix recommends applying a fine mist of Surface Pre-Prep first, followed by several light, even coats of Colour Change paint. Once an even effect has been achieved, apply Spaz Stix High Gloss Black/Backer behind it. The black backing colour is essential for bringing out the full depth, intensity and multi-colour effect.

FAQ
What colours does Spaz Stix SZX05609 shift between? The finish shifts through gold, orange, purple and red depending on the viewing angle and lighting conditions. The colour-changing effect is particularly noticeable in natural sunlight.
Is SZX05609 an opaque paint? No. It is intentionally translucent. The paint initially appears very clear and faint, with the effect gradually developing through several light coats and becoming much stronger after the black backing colour is applied.
Does this Colour Change paint require a black backer? Yes. Spaz Stix specifies High Gloss Black/Backer SZX00110 or SZX00119 after the Colour Change layer for internally painted clear polycarbonate bodies. The black backing makes the colours “pop” and develops the intended chameleon effect.
Should I use Surface Pre-Prep? Yes. Spaz Stix recommends a fine mist of Surface Pre-Prep SZX90050 or SZX90059 before applying Colour Change paint. This helps reduce fingerprints and undesirable swirls that could affect the final appearance.
What is the correct painting order for a clear RC body? Apply a fine mist of Surface Pre-Prep first, followed by several light coats of Gold / Orange / Purple / Red Colour Change paint. Once the effect is even, apply High Gloss Black/Backer behind it.
Why does the paint look almost clear when first sprayed? This is normal. Spaz Stix Colour Change paints spray very clear and require several light coats. The colour remains relatively faint until the black backing coat is applied.
How much black backer should be applied? Retailer application guidance recommends approximately 2–3 light coats of Spaz Stix High Gloss Black/Backer behind the Colour Change layer for interior polycarbonate applications.
Should I apply heavy coats to make the colour shift stronger? No. Several light, controlled coats are recommended. Heavy application can cause runs or uneven effect distribution that remains visible in the finished paintwork.
Can SZX05609 be used for external painting? Yes, but the application order changes. For external applications, apply High Gloss Black/Backer first, spray the Colour Change paint over it, then seal and protect the finish with Spaz Stix SZX90109 clear coat.
Can it be used on surfaces other than polycarbonate? Spaz Stix formulates its paints specifically for polycarbonate RC bodies. Compatibility should be tested before applying the paint to other surfaces.
Important Notes
- Gold / Orange / Purple / Red Colour Change is translucent and is not an opaque paint
- Apply a fine mist of Spaz Stix Surface Pre-Prep SZX90050 or SZX90059 before the effect paint
- Build the Colour Change effect using several light, even coats
- For clear polycarbonate bodies painted internally, apply Colour Change paint before the black backing colour
- High Gloss Black/Backer SZX00110 or SZX00119 is required to develop the intended colour-changing effect
- Do not judge the final colour before the black backer has been applied
- For external applications, apply the black backer first, Colour Change paint second and SZX90109 clear coat last
- Test compatibility before applying to materials other than polycarbonate
- Use with appropriate ventilation and follow all safety instructions printed on the aerosol can
- Aerosol paint is classified as hazardous material by some carriers and may be subject to shipping restrictions
