FAQ
What is Tamiya X-22 Gloss Clear used for? It is used to add a smooth, lustrous gloss finish to compatible model surfaces. It can also provide a glossy surface before applying decals.
Does X-22 add colour to the model? No. X-22 is transparent and is designed to add a clear gloss finish without changing the underlying colour significantly.
Can this enamel clear coat be applied with a brush? Yes. Tamiya enamel paints provide smooth flow and are suitable for carefully brushing small parts, details and limited areas.
Can Tamiya X-22 be airbrushed? Yes. For airbrushing, Tamiya recommends starting with approximately two parts enamel thinner to ten parts paint, then adjusting the mixture to suit your airbrush and spraying conditions.
Can it be applied over decals? It may be used to seal compatible decals, but the paint and decals should be completely dry first. Always test the complete paint and decal combination on a spare piece before coating the finished model.
Is this suitable for clear polycarbonate RC bodies? No. This enamel paint is not formulated for flexible polycarbonate or Lexan body shells. Use Tamiya PS paints and compatible polycarbonate products for clear RC bodies.
Can lacquer paint be applied over this enamel clear coat? No. Lacquer paint should not be applied over an enamel finish because its stronger solvents may react with or damage the enamel layer.
Important Notes
- Stir the paint thoroughly before use.
- Use Tamiya Enamel Paint Thinner for airbrushing, thinning and equipment cleaning.
- Apply thin, even coats to reduce the risk of runs, pooling or an uneven finish.
- Allow the underlying paint and decals to dry completely before applying the clear coat.
- Allow sufficient drying time between coats and before handling or weathering the model.
- Never apply lacquer paint over an enamel-painted surface.
- Test on a spare or concealed area when compatibility with the underlying paint or decals is uncertain.
- Use in a well-ventilated area and follow the safety instructions printed on the container.
