The Tamiya Hotshot II 2024 brings back one of Tamiya's most recognisable four-wheel-drive buggies in an updated 1/10 scale assembly kit. Inspired by the original Hotshot II released in 1987, this modern reissue retains the classic wedge-shaped body, lightweight monocoque chassis and distinctive three-damper suspension layout.

The lightweight polycarbonate body and rear wing are supplied pre-cut and factory painted black, reducing preparation time while preserving the original buggy's unmistakable appearance. Updated orange and yellow graphics are supplied as stickers for the builder to apply.

A shaft-driven four-wheel-drive system, sealed front and rear gearboxes and independent double-wishbone suspension give the Hotshot II stable off-road handling. The Australian 58737-60A package also includes a Type 540 brushed motor and compatible brushed electronic speed controller.

FAQ

Is the Tamiya Hotshot II 2024 ready to run? No. This is an assembly kit that requires construction, a radio system, steering servo, battery and charger before use.

Does this 58737-60A package include an ESC? Yes. The Australian-market 58737-60A package is supplied with a brushed ESC and Type 540 brushed motor.

Is the body already painted? Yes. The polycarbonate body and rear wing are supplied pre-cut and factory painted black.

Why is Tamiya PS paint still listed as required? The main body and rear wing do not require painting. Paint is used for the driver figure and any additional detail finishing desired during assembly.

Is this the same as the original 1987 Hotshot II? It closely recreates the original design but is an updated reissue using current production materials, updated stickers and modern electronic compatibility.

How many shock absorbers does it use? The Hotshot II uses three CVA oil-filled dampers: one transverse monoshock at the front and one damper for each rear wheel.

Does it have front and rear differentials? Yes. The sealed front and rear gearboxes each contain a three-bevel gear differential.

Can the gear ratio be changed? Yes. Several gear ratios can be selected using compatible pinion gear combinations. Check the instructions and motor limits before changing the gearing.

Does the kit include ball bearings? No. The standard kit uses plastic bushings. Compatible ball bearings can be installed as an optional upgrade.

Can I use a LiPo battery? Use only a battery that fits the chassis and is compatible with the supplied ESC. Confirm the ESC voltage range, connector type, battery dimensions and low-voltage protection before using a LiPo pack.

Is this suitable for modern competition racing? The Hotshot II is primarily a classic-style recreational and collector buggy. It is best suited to light off-road running, vintage events and general hobby use rather than current high-level competition.

Important Notes

  • This is an unassembled RC model kit and is not ready to run.
  • The body and rear wing are pre-painted black, but stickers still require application.
  • The driver figure and selected detail parts require painting.
  • Radio system, receiver, steering servo, battery and charger are sold separately.
  • The standard kit uses plastic bushings rather than full ball bearings.
  • Confirm battery size, voltage, connector and ESC compatibility before use.
  • Use gearing suitable for the installed motor and running conditions.
  • Completed models shown in promotional images may include optional equipment or additional painted details.
