Tamiya Nylon/PP Primer is a clear adhesion-promoting primer specifically developed for difficult-to-paint plastics such as nylon and polypropylene (PP). By creating a stronger bond between the surface and the paint, it significantly reduces the risk of paint peeling or chipping from these low-adhesion materials. It is ideal for preparing R/C car mirrors, Mini 4WD wheels, military model tracks and other plastic components before painting. The colourless formula preserves the original appearance while providing an excellent base for subsequent paint coats.

FAQ

What is Tamiya Nylon/PP Primer used for? It is designed to improve paint adhesion on plastics that are normally difficult to paint, such as nylon and polypropylene, helping prevent peeling and chipping.

What parts is it suitable for? It is ideal for R/C car mirrors, Mini 4WD wheels, military miniature tracks and other nylon or polypropylene hobby parts.

Does it change the colour of the part? No. The primer dries clear, allowing the original surface colour to remain unchanged while preparing it for painting.

Can I apply normal hobby paints over it? Yes. Once the primer has dried, it provides an excellent surface for applying compatible hobby paints. Always ensure the primer has fully dried before painting.

Can it be used on standard styrene plastic? While it can be used, this primer is specifically formulated for low-adhesion plastics such as nylon and polypropylene. Standard plastic primers are generally more suitable for styrene models.

Important Notes

  • Shake the can thoroughly before use.
  • Apply several light coats rather than one heavy coat.
  • Allow the primer to dry completely before applying paint.
  • Use in a well-ventilated area and wear appropriate respiratory protection when spraying.
  • Test on an inconspicuous area if the plastic type is unknown.
  • Do not use on polycarbonate (Lexan) bodies intended for RC-specific polycarbonate paints.
  • Store in a cool, dry place away from heat, sparks and open flames.
  • Keep out of reach of children and follow all safety instructions on the aerosol can.
