FAQ
Is the Traxxas X-Maxx 77096-4 ready to run? Yes. The truck arrives assembled with the motor, ESC, radio equipment, steering servo and belted tyres installed. Batteries, a compatible charger and four AA transmitter batteries are required separately.
What is different about the 2024 X-Maxx? This updated version is supplied with factory-installed belted Sledgehammer tyres and gearing selected to suit the heavier, more stable tyre design.
Does the blue model have a different part number? The main Traxxas model number is 77096-4. Retailers may add “BLUE” to the SKU to identify the selected body colour.
Does the X-Maxx include batteries? No. Two matching LiPo batteries are required.
Which batteries are recommended for full power? Use two matching Traxxas 4S LiPo batteries with compatible connectors for full 8S performance. The batteries should have the same capacity, age, discharge rating and state of charge.
Can the X-Maxx run on one battery? No. Both ESC battery connectors must be connected to a suitable matched pair of battery packs.
Can the X-Maxx run on 6S? Yes. Two matching 3S LiPo batteries provide a combined 6S input. Performance will be lower than with two 4S packs.
Can one 3S and one 4S battery be used together? No. Never combine batteries with different cell counts, capacities, conditions or charge levels.
How fast is the X-Maxx? Traxxas advertises speeds exceeding 80km/h when using two compatible 4S LiPo batteries and the included optional speed gearing. Actual speed depends on battery condition, surface, temperature and vehicle setup.
Is the high-speed gearing suitable for normal off-road use? The optional speed gearing is intended for controlled high-speed running on firm surfaces. It increases motor and ESC temperature and reduces low-speed torque, so the standard gearing is better suited to general bashing, grass and repeated acceleration.
What is the standard gearing on the belted X-Maxx? The updated belted version is commonly supplied with a 15-tooth pinion and 54-tooth spur installed. An 18-tooth pinion and 46-tooth spur are supplied for high-speed use.
What is the benefit of belted tyres? Internal belts reduce tyre ballooning as speed increases. This provides more consistent tyre diameter, improved high-speed stability and more predictable steering.
Do belted tyres change jumping behaviour? Yes. Because belted tyres expand less, they generally provide less rotational influence over the truck while it is airborne than flexible non-belted tyres. Drivers may need to adjust throttle timing during jumps.
Are the belted tyres indestructible? No. They are designed for improved high-speed stability and durability, but they can still be damaged by sharp objects, excessive heat, poor landings or prolonged high-speed running.
Does the X-Maxx have a centre differential? It uses Traxxas' Torque-Biasing Centre Drive, which distributes power between the front and rear drivetrains while providing strong acceleration and controlled handling.
Is the X-Maxx waterproof? The ESC, receiver box and steering servo are designed for wet-condition operation. The vehicle still requires cleaning, drying and bearing maintenance after exposure to water or mud.
Can the X-Maxx be driven in salt water? Salt water should be avoided because it causes rapid corrosion of bearings, shafts, hardware and electrical connections.
Does the X-Maxx include telemetry? The power system provides real-time telemetry capability. A separately available Traxxas Link Wireless Module and compatible mobile device may be required to display and configure telemetry information.
What does Traxxas Stability Management do? TSM makes small steering and throttle corrections to reduce spinouts and improve directional control on loose or slippery surfaces. The assistance level can be adjusted from the transmitter.
Does the X-Maxx have self-righting? Yes. The self-righting function can rock the drivetrain to help return an overturned truck to its wheels. It may not work on every surface and repeated attempts can increase drivetrain and motor temperatures.
Should the self-righting feature be used repeatedly? No. If the truck does not recover after a brief attempt, retrieve it manually. Repeated self-righting cycles can place additional stress on the drivetrain and tyres.
Is the X-Maxx suitable for beginners? It is supplied ready to run, but its size, weight, speed and power require substantial open space and responsible operation. New drivers should begin on 6S or use reduced throttle settings until familiar with the truck.
How much space is needed to operate it? The X-Maxx should be used in a large, clear off-road area away from people, animals, parked vehicles, roads and fragile property. It is not suitable for small suburban yards or crowded parks.
What maintenance is required? Inspect the tyres, wheel nuts, drivetrain, suspension pins, bearings and body mounts after each session. Remove dirt and grass, dry the vehicle after wet use and monitor gear mesh and drivetrain noise.
Should the motor and ESC temperatures be checked? Yes. Check temperatures regularly when using tall gearing, heavy tyres, long grass, hot weather or repeated full-throttle acceleration. Stop and allow the system to cool if performance drops or components become excessively hot.
Can different tyres be installed? Yes, provided the wheels use compatible 24mm splined hexes and the tyre size, mass and offset do not overload the drivetrain or contact the body and suspension.
