FAQ

What does the Castle Link V3 do? It connects a compatible Castle ESC, BEC or accessory to a Windows computer so its settings and firmware can be viewed, changed and updated.

Does Castle Link V3 work with Castle Link 2 software? Yes. Castle currently states that Castle Link 2 supports both V3 and V4 USB adapters.

Which operating systems are recommended? Castle Link 2 requires Windows 10 or later. Castle Link Classic supports selected older Windows systems but is considered obsolete and is not compatible with some newer Castle products.

Does it work with Mac computers? Castle does not offer native Macintosh support. Some Intel-based Macs may run the Windows software through a compatible Windows installation or virtualisation program, but this arrangement is not officially supported.

Does Castle Link V3 work with Cobra ESCs? No. Cobra-series ESCs require the Castle Link V4 USB adapter.

Can I adjust a Castle BEC with this adapter? Yes. Compatible Castle external BECs and switching regulators can be programmed through Castle Link.

Can firmware be updated? Yes. Castle Link can install available firmware updates on supported connected devices.

Can I inspect settings before buying or connecting an ESC? Yes. Demo Mode allows available settings to be previewed without connecting a Castle device.

Can it download ESC data logs? Yes, provided the connected ESC supports data logging. Logged information may include values such as motor speed, temperature, battery voltage and current draw.

Does the ESC need battery power while programming? Many controllers receive sufficient power through the interface, but some high-voltage opto-isolated ESCs require a battery to power their processor. Follow Castle's connection sequence for the exact controller.

Why is my Castle device not connecting? Check that the ESC or BEC lead is connected with the correct polarity and confirm that the USB cable supports data transfer rather than charging only. A different USB port or cable may also resolve connection problems.

Important Notes

  • Download the appropriate Castle Link software from Castle Creations before use.
  • Castle Link 2 is recommended for most current installations.
  • Cobra-series ESCs require Castle Link V4 and are not compatible with this V3 adapter.
  • Confirm that the Castle ESC, BEC or accessory supports Castle Link before purchasing.
  • Current-production adapters use a Micro-B USB connection; older units may use Mini-B.
  • Use a USB cable capable of data transfer, not a charge-only cable.
  • Connect the receiver lead with the correct signal, positive and negative orientation.
  • Some high-voltage controllers require an external battery during programming.
  • For Phoenix Edge HV controllers, connect the controller to Castle Link before applying battery power.
  • Disconnect the AUX lead from applicable Mamba XLX2 and other specified controllers before connecting Castle Link.
  • Windows computer and internet connection are not included.
